Admittance to Teacher Education        

You must be admitted into Teacher Education prior to enrolling in Block I courses. Forms can be picked up in Bluemont 013 and are due Oct. 1 to enroll in the Spring semester and Feb. 15 to enroll in the Fall semester.

Course Requirements
•50 hours complete
•Expository Writing 1 (C or better)
•Expository Writing 2 (C or better)
•Public Speaking (C or better)
•3 hours Math (C or Better)
•3 hours Statistics (C or Better)
•Intro to Agricultural Education

GPA Requirements
Both GPA requirements are figured using all college credits earned. Community college, other universities and K-State credit.
•Agricultural Teaching Field-2.5 GPA
This is figured on KATS.
•Overall 2.5 GPA

•PPST (Pre-professional Skills Test)

Writing-172, Reading-173, Mathematics-172

Change in PPST Requirement
As of Janaury 1, 2004, students who have a composite score of 26 or higher on the ACT test will no longer be required to take the PPST in order to be admitted to the professional education program. They must be able to document that they do have the required ACT score. This only relates to the PPST and not any other tests.

Professionalism        

Students are required to document 20 hours of professional meetings and 20 hours of Educational Community Service. The documents are available in BH364. Ask advisor for details.

Testing Requirements        

The PPST is required to be admitted to Teacher Education. The PLT is required for licensure and is usually taken sometime after Block II.

CPR/First Aid Certification        

All students must show proof of American Red Cross or equivalent (e.g. American Heart Association) certification in both CPR and First Aid (Community First Aid and Safety) in order to be eligible to student teach.

Student Teaching        

You should apply to BH 013 by the end of the fall semester preceding the academic year in which you plan to student teach (e.g. 12/20/05 for Fall 2006 or Spring 2007)

TB Test        

In order to participate in your Early Field Experience, PDS school visits, and student teaching internship you must have verification of a negative tuberculin test within the two years prior to entering the school.
